Wilbur Wright was born on 16 April 1867 in Millville, Indiana. He was the son of Milton Wright and Susan Koerner. On December 17, 1903, Wilbur's brother Orville piloted the first powered airplane 20 feet above a wind-swept beach in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The flight lasted 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. Three more flights were made that day with Wilbur piloting the record flight lasting 59 seconds over a distance of 852 feet. He died on 30 May 1912 in Dayton, Ohio at age 45.
