William (5) Makepeace was born on 4 May 1738 in Norton.2,3 He was the son of William (4) Makepeace and Experience Aldrich.1 He married Anna Cobb on 9 September 1757 in Norton.4 He "served as a sergeant in the expedition against Louisburg, in 1758. He was a farmer, and lived on the same farm from about the time of his first marriage, in 1757, to his death..."5 He married Deborah Briggs on 17 February 1773.3 While the handwritten vital record from Norton, Massachusetts for the family of William Makepeace only records Anne Cobb as wife and mother, there is ample evidence of her death, the marriage and death of his second wife Deborah Briggs, and his marriage to Ruth Hunt. As further evidence, the will of Timothy Briggs (father of Deborah Briggs) mentions his grandson Jonathan Makepeace, but not his daughter or any other grandchildren from her. He married Ruth Hunt, daughter of Samuel Hunt and Experience Paine, on 8 December 1774 in Norton.6,7,5 William was an American Revolutionary War Soldier, a sergeant in Capt Seth Gilbert's Company, Col. John Daggett's Regiment, which responded to the Lexington Alarm.8 He died on 31 October 1822 in Norton at age 84.3
